Women's Transformative Leadership & Governance
Women’s Transformative Leadership and Governance is another critical pillar for the Organisation. WAG’s programmes strives to promote women’s effective participation in community, national and international activities. There are a number of national, regional and international laws and policies that promote women’s participation in decision making, such as Section 80 of the Zimbabwean Constitution, the 1990 Beijing Platform for Action and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.

WAG realises the need to increase the participation of women in governance as it remains a priority. This is also evident in the Sustainable Development Goals, in which goal 5.5 is to “Ensure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic and public life.”

Women’s participation decision making remains a cause of concern in Zimbabwe despite the laws and policies that have been put in place that promotes women’s contribution in the social, economic and political spaces. Women’s Action Group therefore strives to empower women with knowledge and skills to participate in leadership and decision making.

Best Practices

WAG has been running Feminist School Sessions with young women and marginalised women in Zimbabwe. Through the Feminist School sessions, WAG has created safe and inclusive environment where women discuss on the issues that affect them. The Feminist School sessions have been key in empowering women with knowledge on their rights. Additionally, the Feminist school sessions have played a significant role in building women’s confidence, thus enabling them to identify and explore their strengths, talents, fostering personal growth and resilience.
