Climate Change & Public Health
WAG responds to climate change and public health emergencies in a bid to address the SRHR needs of women and girls. Responding to emergencies is also aimed at reducing the vulnerability of women and girls to GBV challenges in humanitarian settings.

Women have unique needs that are often overlooked during humanitarian crisis for example women may require access to SRH information and services, menstrual hygiene products or psychosocial support. In addition, women are vulnerable to Gender Based Violence during humanitarian crisis. WAG therefore seeks to address these issues and ensure that women are empowered to rebuild their lives and communities.

Best Practices

WAG has intervened in emergency crises including Cyclone Idai and the COVID 19 pandemic. The organisation has been able to support women in humanitarian crisis with sanitary pads, nutrition packs and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). WAG has also been offering psychosocial support services to women and girls in humanitarian crisis on GBV and SRHR related issues. In addition, WAG has played a significant role in educating women farmers on climate change adaptation strategies in Makoni and Chimanimani districts in partnership with Agritex and Zimbabwe Farmers Union (ZFU). The organisation also availed seed funding to women farmers in humanitarian crisis to ensure economic empowerment.
